Wind power: Modelling of icing and production losses

Numerical weather prediction models used by SMHI, WeatherTech and Uppsala University will be improved with respect to parametrizations of cloud physics and turbulence.

The aim is to optimize the ability of the models to determine icing and production losses for wind power in cold climates. We will also estimate the uncertainty of the icing and production losses. We will work with the uncertainties of the relevant processes in order to quantify their contributions and to include them in probabilistic forecasting of wind power production.

The project “Modelling of icing and production losses” is supported by the Swedish Energy Agency within the programme “Wind power in Cold Climates” (projectno 37279-1).
