Improved calculations of ships arrival times

SMHI took part in the MarNIS project (Maritime Navigation and Information Services) demonstrator in Genoa, Italy, September 23rd–25th. The project integrates vessel traffic monitoring, search and rescue and pollution combating under one roof and aims at implementation between 2012 and 2020.

The MarNIS project has been running for a total of 4 years, involving 50 partners. SMHI in the role as a work package leader, presented successfully a new concept called CTA server (Calculated Time of Arrival), for improved calculations of the ships arrival times.

No software installation onboard the ship is required, more advanced calculations are enabled and all stakeholders get access to the same information about when the ship actually is expected to arrive to the harbour.
