Season arrival
The Season arrival map shows when the meteorological spring, summer, autumn and winter began in Sweden from 2015 onwards.
The map is based on SMHI’s meteorological definitions of the seasons in Sweden. The dates shown on the map are based on model calculations and may differ from dates based solely on observations.
How SMHI defines the seasons
Winter
Winter will arrive after 5 consecutive days with winter temperatures. Winter temperature is daily mean temperature 0.0°C or below, but not yet for 5 consecutive days. The winter arrival date refers to the first day out of 5 with winter temperatures.
Normal winter arrival (in Swedish)
Spring
Spring will arrive after 7 consecutive days with spring temperatures. Spring temperature is daily mean temperature above 0.0°C, but not yet for 7 consecutive days. The spring arrival date refers to the first day out of 7 with spring temperatures. 15 February is set as the earliest allowed date for spring arrival. The latest date for spring arrival is 31 July.

Summer
Summer will arrive after 5 consecutive days with summer temperatures. Summer temperature is daily mean temperature 10.0°C or above, but not yet for 5 consecutive days. The summer arrival date refers to the first day out of 5 with summer temperatures.

Autumn
Autumn will arrive after 5 consecutive days with autumn temperatures. Autumn temperature is daily mean temperature below 10.0°C, but not yet for 5 consecutive days. The autumn arrival date refers to the first day out of 5 with autumn temperatures. 1 August is set as the earliest allowed date for autumn arrival. The latest date allowed for autumn arrival is 14 February.
