Joakim Langner is the new head of SMHI research

Joakim Langner has been appointed as new head of the SMHI research department. He has a background of many years as a researcher in air quality and climate, and long experience from leading positions at SMHI.

Joakim Langner is an associate professor of meteorology at Stockholm University and has worked at SMHI since 1992. He has worked as a researcher and specialist, primarily in the atmospheric environment and climate. Joakim Langner has held several senior management positions at SMHI through the years, including head of the research department from 2006-2010.

"I look forward to leading research activities at SMHI once again. There is a lot happening in SMHI's areas of research, both in Sweden and internationally. I foresee developments where we will continue to create new knowledge that will benefit Sweden and places far beyond the borders of our country through international partnerships," says Joakim Langner.
