The focus of the meeting was to share the results of 10 years of European cooperation in climate change impacts, vulnerability and adaptation research, and to pave the way for the development of new research in support of climate change adaptation in Europe in the next decade. The first two days focused on knowledge sharing and science-practice interactions between junior and senior researchers, policy-makers, research funders and practitioners. The final day of the conference looked forward, discussing priorities for national research programmes, Joint Programming Initiatives and Horizon 2020.
Head of the Rossby Centre, Erik Kjellström, joined Carin Nilsson, SMHI Core Service, in leading two parallel sessions on 'Climate modelling, observations and scenarios: user needs for adaptation'. In each session a number of key presentations were followed by lively discussion and resulted in a number of suggestions and recommendations for future science and policy prioritisation.
Lars Bärring presented on his work with Skogforsk (Forest Research Institute of Sweden) in the 'Agriculture and Forests' parallel session. Additionally he facilitated the 'User Requirement Assessment for accessing Climate Data and Information in Europe' workshop, which was seeking to discuss and gather opinion from climate data users to feed into the ISENES2 and CLIP-C FP7 projects. Participants of the workshop were enthusiastic and provided a wealth of information, which has now been summarised and will soon be integrated into the work plan of these two projects.
