SMHI hosted climate course for key people from southern Africa
During end of 2019, SMHI held a three week course about climate; International Training Program (ITP), on site in Norrköping.
On Monday, November 18, 25 participants from southern Africa arrived for part two of SMHI's International Training Program (ITP) on "Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation". The course started earlier that same fall, with a one-week seminar in Mozambique – and will be completed next year in Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe.
ITP - International Training Programs
SMHI has been commissioned by Sida to carry out twelve “International Training Programs” about “Climate Change - Mitigation and Adaption”, in the years 2015-2020. The programs include the latest climate research, how societies can be adapted and crises prevented. Particular focus is placed on water resources and agriculture.
A total of around 330 decisionmakers from nine African countries will undergo the programs.
The training consists of three parts: start-up and completion meetings in Africa and a three-week course at SMHI in Norrköping.
The participants in the programs work on different levels at - for example - water and environmental management authorities, risk management and agriculture. Other participants come from business- and non-profit organizations.
