Eastern and Southern Africa

The East African international Training Programme on climate change mitigation and adaptation has received participants from Kenya, Ethiopia, Rwanda and from 2019, Sudan.

SMHI has, during 2015 - to 2022 implemented four ITPs in East Africa  - Kenya, Ethiopia and Rwanda and four ITPs in Southern Africa  - Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Mocambique.
So far more than 220 decision makers from these countries have completed the programme. Country capital cities like Addis Ababa, Nairobi, Kigali, Maputo, Lusaka and Gabarone have hosted the regional seminars in the programme.

Participants overall have been very satisfied with the training program and we have received a lot of warm and encouraging feedbacks. For example George Sanga Kavulunze, Coordinator for the Kenya Water Partnership who attended the 2018 ITP says:

"I have learned a great deal, and the combination of science and theory makes it easier to apply the knowledge in our activities back home. The panel discussions with the experts invited in was exceptionally interesting. There were many questions, and this opportunity enabled us to dig deeper into some subjects. The networking opportunities have also been good. The world is a global city and it is easier to make changes in your own country if one also works with people in other countries”.
