EIATNE - Identification and Management of Critical Environmental Impacts from Air Transportation over North Europe

The EIATNE research project was a three-year project, which started in 1999 and was completed in 2002 (download final report). The project was partly financed by the European Commission LIFE-Environment and partly by the Swedish Civil Aviation Administration.

The response from the atmospheric system to a range of changes in air traffic and its routing has been studied in the EIATNE project. This was done to draw conclusions as to which measures are environmentally beneficial, and can be of value for policy-makers and for planning of future air transport routes. The effects of today's air traffic needed to be understood initially to assess the changes in impacts from future scenarios. The study has focused on effects of air traffic in Northern Europe in relation to the sensitivity of the area.
