NORDKLIM-OBSEnsures the high quality and consistency of the climate observation time series as well as manages and disseminates long-term observational climate data (NORDKLIM data set). Topics of NORDKLIM-OBS are related to one of the fundamental tasks of all Nordic National Meteorological Services (NMSs), i.e. ensuring high quality of observed climate data. Temporal scale extends from the operational quality control of incoming observation flow to the adjustment of century-long climatic time series for climate variability and change studies. Themes of NORDKLIM-OBS often arise from practical needs within the institutes. Sharing of knowledge and development of common procedures lead to more efficient use of resources.

Successful production of high-resolution gridded data sets based on all available, good quality observations will be of wide practical use and could contribute to a break-through at European level, too. Because of direct access to data and experience in analysis of local climate the Nordic NMSs are in the best position to accomplish the production of gridded data sets.

Studies on adaptation measures needed to avoid unfavorable and to benefit from positive impacts of climate change is an emerging research topic. NORDKLIM-ADAPT serves as a focal point to exchange information about the best practices and current contacts with impacts and adaptation study communities. The scope of selected impact and adaptation studies can be expanded from national to Nordic context as has been done e.g. in energy-related research.
