Digitalization, technological innovation, co-creation, mobility, urbanization and many other forces are chaning our world and society today. It changes our customers and it also changes our business. As part of meeting these challenges, we have formed the group New Ventures in 2016.

New Venture's objective is to work with the business area of new markets within SMHI's Professional Services. The aim is to find tomorrow's big businesses with focus on scalability, automation and international potential. New Ventures is part of how we work with innovation and is an activity with a strong focus on entrepreneurial spirit.

The group uses Lean Startup as a method of business development, a well-known agile method for developing new business. We apply these principles in order to create maximum value in our products for our customers. The method requires close dialogue with users and the market.

Objective:

  • A close relationship with users and actively analyzing new behaviors and trends.
  • Finding and developing tomorrow's big businesses and thereby moving our position forward into new areas.
  • Developing businesses outside of the current product portfolio.
  • New products based on application of our cutting edge competencies: meteorology, hydrology, climatology and oceanography.
  • Creating true value in our products is important and we always strive to work in active dialogue with users and customers.

How do we succeed?

We develop new businesses to strengthen SMHIs professional services but do not work with private venture capital. To succeed, we believe in partnerships with companies that possess unique skills. As part of this we have cooperated with the incubator Lead.
