SAWA/CPA

A key issue in the projects is how to reduce flood risks in particularly vulnerable areas in the context of climate change.

Within the projects SAWA (Strategic Alliance for integrated Water management Actions) and CPA (Climate Proof Areas), riparian member states of the North Sea region are building strategic alliances in order to develop successful strategies, methods and measures for an innovative water management system. A key issue in the projects is how to reduce flood risks in particularly vulnerable areas in the context of climate change.

In Sweden, the activities are focused on the Vänern region in western Sweden. The role of hydrology research at SMHI is to develop climate scenarios for both intensive precipitation and river discharge, to be used for adaptation planning and design.
