Scientific Programmer in remote sensing (ref no 1912)

SMHI's Research Department conducts research on weather, water, climate and environmental issues. The Research Department offers a stimulating environment with many external contacts and flexible working conditions.

The atmospheric remote sensing group is working with research and development within atmospheric remote sensing (radar and satellite). Our work is funded by internal, national and international projects. We are now looking to employ a scientific programmer in a permanent position located at SMHI in Norrköping, Sweden.

As scientific programmer you will join our development team for satellite data products. Application areas of our products are weather forecasts and climate monitoring. Your tasks will include further development and maintenance of our internationally well-established processing and analysis package for satellite data. With time you will also contribute to the scientific development and to the validation of our algorithms.

Your profile

We seek a person with at least a master’s degree in engineering/mathematics/physics or a similar discipline. It is essential that you are proficient in Python and C. We welcome if you already have experience in building complex software systems incorporating various open source components. We work in a Linux environment and you need to have a good knowledge of Unix tools.

We seek a structured and creative person who can work both independently and in a team. You enjoy working with many external contacts within SMHI as well as internationally. Good knowledge of spoken and written English is required, along with a clear willingness to learn Swedish. We expect you to be result oriented and to take full responsibility to carry your work forward.
