Researcher/weather radar , ref no 163

SMHI's Research Department conducts research on weather, water, climate and environmental issues. The aim is to support society with relevant knowledge and to develop tools and methods that can be used in SMHI operations. The Research Department offers a stimulating environment with many external contacts and flexible working conditions. The unit of Atmospheric Remote Sensing is now looking for a researcher/weather radar.

The atmospheric remote sensing group is working with research and development in remote sensing (radar and satellite) and atmospheric radiation. Our work is funded by internal, national and international projects.

Radar data is not only used to describe precipitation in real time, but is more and more used quantitatively in meteorological and hydrological models and analyses. This leads to more stringent requirements on data and product quality. An upgrade of the existing radar network provides opportunities to introduce improved technology, data processing algorithms, and opens up new application areas.

Your profile

We want to reinforce our radar research team, and are now looking for someone having a sound theoretical background in radar technology, as well as interest in contributing to model development aiming at direct use in operational applications. You might have a background in physics, space physics, civil engineering or meteorology and have research experience within radar applications. We appreciate if you are holding a PhD in the field. Experience in meteorology and polarimetry are advantageous.

You should possess good programming skills. We work in a Linux environment and use primarily C and Python, but even Fortran, Matlab and Java. You must be able to work both independently and in cooperation with others.
