To work on further development and application of the Regional coupled Climate Model, RCAO. The work will focus on a new coupled domain covering the North Sea and Baltic Sea, including further development and testing of ocean model parameterizations, ocean-atmosphere coupling techniques, the treatment of ocean boundary conditions and coupling to ocean biogeochemistry models. In addition, related work will be carried out for an Arctic model domain. Goals are an improved understanding of regional climate processes and the generation of advanced regional climate scenarios.
The work will take place within the Rossby Centre at the Research Department of SMHI and be linked to both national and international projects. The work requires a readiness to engage in the full range of activities pertinent to the development, application and subsequent analysis of coupled Regional Climate Models.
Your profile
We seek a person with at least a masters degree in oceanography/meteorology/physics or a similar discipline and relevant additional research experience. A PhD qualification would be beneficial. Experience with ocean or climate modelling is a necessity, knowledge of programming languages Fortran and Unix/Linux is required, while knowledge of parallel coding, such as MPI and OpenMP are seen as beneficial.
We seek a person who can work independently on complex problems but is also comfortable with sharing larger tasks within a group. Good knowledge of spoken and written English is required, along with a clear willingness to learn Swedish. The position is permanent and will be located at SMHI in Norrköping, Sweden.
