High resolution meteorological modeller ref no 1832

The meteorological Forecast and Analysis Research Group is active in developing dynamical models and data assimilation of observations. We are now introducing meso-scale models on the kilometer scale, since a few years back. This means new opportunities for representation of local effects of wind and precipitation as the models resolve finer scales. Especially the convective systems become partially resolved by the model and this is also a challenge for the development of forecast products.

We are now looking for a modeller in order to develop products especially for aviation and wind energy.

The work entails to develop and validate the meso-scale model run at SMHI in the area of physical processes and parameterisation. You will be working both with convection and turbulence in the model as well as in development of applications and products based on the model fields..

The position is permanent and placed at the SMHI headquarters in Norrköping.

Your profile

You should have a University education in Meteorology or closely related subjects. It is of further advantage if you have a PhD. We value experience of meteorological modelling and programming. Programmes are written in Fortran and we use Linux systems and scripts. Knowledge of aviation meteorology would be an added advantage.

You need to be fluent in English and, in case of non-Swedish speakers; you should be prepared to learn Swedish. As a person we would like you to be targeted and able to work both on your own as well as in a group with colleagues at SMHI as well as at other international institutes.
