Core Services Department
Core Services' responsibilities consist of observation operations, statistical collation and analysis, forecast production and joint international operations in the fields of meteorology, hydrology and oceanography. The department has environmental and climate expertise and is SMHI's expert resource for co-ordinating with government agencies.
Ordering government-funded operations carried out by other SMHI departments also lies within its remit. Core Services is also responsible for sales of observation data and basic forecasts to SMHI's own commercial operations, as well as to private weather companies. Moreover, scientists use the department as a resource for information from SMHI's comprehensive databases.
Professional Services Department
Professional Services markets and produces customised and industry-specific forecasting services aimed at customers in spheres such as media, industry and commerce, agriculture, shipping, infrastructure, energy, the building trade and property management. This department has collective environmental expertise including marketing responsibility for consulting services.
Research Department
Research and development operations in meteorology, hydrology, oceanography and climatology, as well as relevant aspects of environmental care. Operations include the Rossby Centre climate research unit.
IT Department
Group-wide IT responsibility for operation and administration of IT infrastructure and applications, user and production support, and systems development.
Finance Department
This department's remit encompasses financial management, accounting, financial administration, and premises and properties.
Human Resources Department
The Human Resources Department focuses on strategic HR issues, administration and operational support.
Expert functions
SMHI's organisation also comprises Group-level functions for Legal Affairs, Communication and Management Systems.
