Model Systems

SMHI has applied the HYPE model around the world, for Sweden, the Baltic Sea, Europe and La Plata Basin in South America. During 2012-2013 model systems for the Niger River, Arctic, Middle East and North Africa as well as India will be developed. Here are the developed and upcoming large scale, high-resolution hydrological models listed.
World of HYPE

With the software and tools developed and used at the Hydrological Research Unit it has been possible to apply the HYPE model in many different regions. Here are the developed and upcoming large scale, high-resolution hydrological models listed.

SWEDEN

S-HYPE, a model of both hydrological and nutrient variables for all of Sweden. Developed to support decision making for the Water Framework Directive in Sweden. (Median subbasin resolution = 15 km2).

BALTIC SEA

BALT-HYPE, a model of both hydrological and nutrient variables for the Baltic Sea basin . (Median subbasin resolution = 315 km2).

EUROPE

E-HYPE, a pan-European model of hydrological variables including runoff and discharge as well as nutrients (Median subbasin resolution = 200 km2).

LA PLATA BASIN

LPB-HYPE, a model of the La Plata Basin in South America, simulating hydrological variables (median subbasin resolution = 500km2).

NIGER RIVER

NIGER-HYPE, a model of the Niger River in Africa, simulating hydrological variables, under development 2012 - 2013.

ARCTIC OCEAN

ARCTIC-HYPE, a model for the entire Arctic Region (defined here as all land areas with runoff to the Arctic Ocean), simulating hydrological variables, has been developed during 2012 and from a first version a hindcast has been delivered for 1961-2009.

ARAB REGION

MENA-HYPE (Middle East and Northern Africa) is planned to be developed within the ESCWA project.

INDIA

In-HYPE will be set-up for the Indian region to evaluate CORDEX-SA projections of future changes in water storage and fluxes.
