Until now these gridded emissions have been hard to access and difficult to use for non-experts. In a project financed by RUS (program for evaluating the compliance of regional environmental objectives) and the Swedish EPA, all geographically distributed emissions are now made available through Airviro. Access to the emissions is given through two different applications, a public web application for viewing emission maps downloading of emission reports, as well as a more flexible application for the regional authorities.
Public access
The objective of the public access is to provide access for non-experts and municipalities with limited resources. Using the emission maps it is possible to make basic controls of the data quality, and get an understanding of the nature of the source. The emission report archive provides the emissions per source category, geographical area, year and substance. Analysis of emission trends, given in the reports, is an important tool in the follow-up of regional environmental objectives.
National EDB - Concept for national inventories
Wider access to the emissions is given through the application N-EDB (National Emission DataBase). The application makes it easy to:
- Create presentations on maps
- Compare different inventories
- Analyse trends
- Design emission reports (Excel-format)
- Export emission grids to GIS
The work made by the user can be saved as a macro. With little effort this gives the user access to an archive of maps, reports and diagrams that can be accessed from any web-browser with a few mouse-clicks.
Due to requirements on the structure of the emission databases, these applications can not be used for all Airviro installations. Therefore, the functionality is not part of the Airviro system itself, but provided as a separate add-on application.
