Aim: to identify and understand differences/similarities in model performance between different concepts, and usefulness of model results for the measure programmes of WFD.
Participants: Swedish and other European modelling groups working on dynamic tools for water quality assessment at the catchment scale.
Date and Location: 28 - 30 March 2011, Söderköping, Sweden
Study basin: Söderköpingsån River, 800 km2 divided in about 20 subbasins, South-eastern Sweden.
Task: Each model group will set-up and run its own model before the meeting. Data for present conditions and management/climate scenarios will be available for downloading. During the workshop the results will be compared to additional monitoring data and to results from other models. The work will be focused on analysing differences in model results and conclusions to end-users.
Costs: will be covered for accommodation, international flights and meals during the workshop, but not for work or additional travel expenses.
Deliverables:
Papers in pre-reviewed scientific journals,
Input to stake-holder dialogues in a follow-up meeting with Swedish water authorities.
Workshop in September
Results from the international research workshop will be presented at a user-driven workshop, including various Swedish stakeholders of the Water Framework Directive. Discussions will focus on strength and weaknesses in using models for water quality assessments, adaptive management and decision-making under uncertainty.
